NEW RICHMOND -- Mrs. Maude Swank, 83, longtime resident of New Richmond, died at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Westbrook Nursing Home in Crawfordsville where she had been a patient and in failing health for 2 1/2 years. Born July 9, 1881, in Montgomery County, Mrs. Swank was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Mathis. She attended schools in Wingate and Center. She was married to Harvey Swank, who preceded her in death in 1946. Mrs. Swank was a member of the Center Christian Church. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, a son and a brother. Survivors include two sons, Reuben Swank of New Richmond and Russell Swank of Crawfordsville; a granddaughter, Mrs. John Bonic of Blue Island, Ill.; a grandson, Douglas Swank of New Richmond, and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Helms Funeral Chapel in Linden. Rev. Robert Hayden of New Richmond will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery near Elmdale. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Wednesday.
